This piece explores a grounded, cinematic take on Kaz from Dragonlance, designed as a creature that could plausibly exist on set as a practical prosthetic with VFX enhancement. Starting from a Metahuman base and real–world references (bodybuilders and strongman physiques) to keep the character firmly in a live–action context and assuming metahuman is an actor representation.
Throughout the process I worked under art direction by Ruben Alba, aligning the creature with a realistic tone and a production–friendly approach. The final images are a combination of the high–res sculpt, compositing and paintover, aimed at serving as a bridge between concept art, makeup FX and VFX departments in a contemporary film pipeline.
The workflow combines 2d ideation, 3D sculpting and paintovers with some ai reference generation alongside real world ref, for discussion with Ruben.
